Within the European Space Agency (ESA)the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) is the largest and most important facility for European spaceflight. Here on the North Sea coast, in Noordwijk southwest of Amsterdam, is where nearly all major projects of the space organisation come into being and from here they are supported in all phases of their development. More than 2,000 specialists work here on dozens of spectacular projects involving the exploration and conquest of space.
The Erasmus Centre at ESTEC is the high-tech demonstration and familiarisation centre of the European manned spaceflight programme. International scientists familiarise themselves here with the methods of conducting their experiments under space conditions, and guests from countries all over the world come and go as they become acquainted with the achievements of European spaceflight.
